Here are the drawings children have done in Cicle Superior ( 11-12 years old) in the lessons of Art.
They have drawn two traditions of Christmas time. One , the TIO,is typical from Catalonia, and the REYES MAGOS, celebrated in Catalonia and Spain.
The TIO is a short part of a trunk of tree, very special, most of time with a funny face, which children keep a t home for some days before Christmas Eve. If they take care of it , feeding with fruits and delicious food, heating him with a blanket as if it was a pet…. on Christmas Eve it becomes magic and gives children many gifts and sweets. It’s a pleasure for little kids to hit the tio’s back while saying a chant and discovering under the blanket the surprises.
The REYES MAGOS, it’s possible you have already heard about this Spanish event, it’s a really exciting day for everybody 6 th January. Some days before, children write and send the letter to them with the lists of toys they wish to receive. .
The eve, these three characters, called Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar, riding camels, come from far away, and do a parade through the streets of towns, villages and cities greeting children and inviting them to go to bed early, because that night they will go along homes setting all the presents. Next morning, the 6th you discover the room, balcony or hall plenty of gifts.
You can believe or not, but it’s great fun .
